At Dent Middle School, we expect our students to meet and exceed the curriculum expectations set by the South Carolina Department of Education as well as participate in an arts program offered through our co-curricular courses. The FAME (Fine Arts and Media Enrichment) program at Dent Middle School provides these arts opportunities for our students. Students in the FAME program will choose an arts major to follow throughout their middle school years at Dent.
All Students at Dent Middle School have an opportunity to participate in the FAME program through their co-curricular class time. Sixth grade students will explore many of the FAME areas. At the end of the sixth grade year, these students will choose a major that they will follow throughout the rest of their years at Dent.
By the time FAME students leave the eighth grade, they will be prepared to audition for the Palmetto Center for the Artsprogram or apply for the Convergence Media program, both located at Richland Northeast High School.
Media Literacy is also taught to all of our students through their Social Studies Classes.
“According to a 1995 report by the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, ‘teaching the arts has a significant effect on overall success in school.’" – Education Week, November 2001
Therefore, we believe that students who participate in the FAME program will:
